Whereas the New International Version translates 1 Corinthians 15:8 “abnormally born,” (several other translations are similar), “an abortion” is the Darby Bible Translation’s choice and GOD'S WORD® Translation renders it “like an aborted fetus [who was given life]”.

Writes Gordon D. Fee (The First Epistle to the Corinthians The New International Commentary on the New Testament), Eerdmans, 1987, page 733), “. . . the word literally refers to any kind of premature birth (abortion, stillbirth or miscarriage). Thus the word comes to be used figuratively to refer to something horrible or ‘freakish.’ ” He adds in a footnote that in the Ancient Greek translation of Job 3:16; Ecclesiastes 6:3 and Numbers 12:12 this word “reflects the idea of the ‘ugliness’ or ‘monstrous’ nature of such a birth . . .”
