Christs Suffering: Our ExampleWe have aleady cited the many times Jesus said we must take up our cross and follow him. In additons, consider these Scriptures: John 15:20 Remember the word that I said to you: A servant is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. Matthew 20:26-28 It shall not be so among you, but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. Whoever desires to be first among you shall be your bondservant, even as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Ephesians 5:2 Walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance. John 15:12-13 This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. Philippians 2:5,8 Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus [have the same attitude as Jesus] . . . he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross. Hebrews 12:2-3 looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him who has endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, that you dont grow weary, fainting in your souls. 1 John 3:16 By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. Emphasis mine.
