Suffer Temptation

* * *

Bible translations are extremely consistent in using the word suffer in reference to Jesus being tempted (Hebrews 2:18) and rightly so because the identical Greek word is used in contexts such as the following.

Matthew 16:21 From that time, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

Matthew 17:15 Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic, and suffers grievously; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.

Luke 22:15  . . . I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer

Acts 9:16 For I will show him [Paul] how many things he must suffer for my name’s sake.
