L-Tryptophan

Wikipedia (September 2016) states:

Because tryptophan has not been thoroughly studied in a clinical setting, possible side effects and interactions with other drugs are not well known. However, while use of this amino acid to treat depression or mood by elevating serotonin levels may or may not be effective in some individuals (in some cases, in some situations, for an indeterminate period of time), as with any shift in neurochemical balances, altering a person's neurochemistry is never a simple prospect and may give rise to mental and emotional instabilities, a worsening of depression or mood (potentially as far as suicidal thoughts or impulses), or other detrimental effects therapeutically inadvisable.

I draw also your attention to the Side Effects and the Interactions Dosing tabs in http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-326-l-tryptophan.aspx?activeingredientid=326&activeingredientname=l-tryptophan

http://www.supplements-and-health.com/tryptophan-side-effects.html makes disturbing reading. It needs to be read or at least scanned, in its entirety as it does not list the problems in order of seriousness.
