“I cannot forget how zealously they seconded my efforts on behalf of the Gospel” is how J. B. Lightfoot paraphrased what Paul wrote of these women. Lightfoot adds, “Euodia and Syntyche appear to have been ladies of rank, or possibly (like Phoebe, Rom. xvi.1) deaconesses in the Philippian church.”
