Note the following two Scriptures:

Romans 3:25 whom God sent to be an atoning sacrifice, through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness through the passing over of prior sins, in God’s forbearance

Romans 5:13 For until the law, sin was in the world; but sin is not charged when there is no law.

Divine tolerance of those outside the Mosaic covenant might shed light on a puzzling incident recorded in Scripture. After Namaan the Gentile was healed he declared that he would no longer offer sacrifices to any god except the true God. He then asked Elisha for permission to bow down in the temple of Rimmon when he is required to take his King there to worship. Surprisingly, Elisha gave his approval (2 Kings 5:17-19).
